Sweden Student Work Rights 2026

International students in Sweden can work alongside their studies without a separate work permit. After graduation, they can apply to stay for job-seeking or to start a business.

Students can work during their studies without restrictions, and full-time work is permitted during official holiday breaks. The key condition is to keep up with the academic requirements of the program.

Sweden is a study destination with 36 universities, including KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Lund University, Chalmers University of Technology, Uppsala University, Stockholm University, and Dalarna University College.

After completing their studies, graduates from Swedish institutions can apply for a residence permit to look for work or start their own business. This permit can let them remain in Sweden for up to 12 months.

The post-study route is meant for a job search or a business related to the graduate’s qualifications. Swedish is one of the main languages used in the country, and English is also widely used in higher education.
