The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) supports meritorious students from economically weaker sections to continue their education from Class 9 through Class 12, reducing dropout at the secondary stage. Selection is via a state-level examination.

Eligibility

  • Studying in Class 9 to 12 in a government, local-body or government-aided school.
  • Cleared the NMMS state-level selection examination.
  • Family income up to the notified ceiling (around ₹3.5 lakh per year).
  • Meet the minimum marks in the qualifying class.

Benefits

  • ��12,000 per year (₹1,000 per month) through secondary and higher secondary schooling.
  • Direct benefit transfer to the student's account.
  • Encourages continuation to Class 12.

How to apply

  • Appear for and clear the NMMS state-level examination (usually in Class 8).
  • Register and apply on the National Scholarship Portal (scholarships.gov.in).
  • Select the NMMS scheme and complete the application.
  • Upload documents and submit for school/state verification.
