Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS Pilani) is an all-India institute for higher education. It focuses on science, technology, and other areas of scholarship, aiming to train students to create and apply ideas, methods, techniques, and information. BITS offers structured academic programmes across an integrated first degree, higher degree, and doctoral programmes. Academics include departments covering biological sciences, chemical engineering, chemistry, civil engineering, computer science and information systems, economics and finance, electrical and electronics engineering, humanities and social sciences, management, mathematics, mechanical engineering, pharmacy, and physics. The institute operates multiple campuses: Pilani (Vidya Vihar, adjacent to the town of Pilani), with a campus spread over 328 acres and a library complex of 65,000 sq. ft housing more than 2,30,000 volumes of books and manuscripts; plus campuses in Goa, Hyderabad, Dubai, and Mumbai.
