Overview

The NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship Program 2026 is offered by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) to support postdoctoral researchers. It provides partial funding of CAD 70,000 per year for two years to successful applicants. The fellowship is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Eligible applicants must hold or expect to hold a doctorate in an NSERC-supported field such as engineering, psychology, maths, physics, astronomy, chemistry, earth sciences, ecology, or biology. The fellowship can be used at universities and research institutions in Canada and abroad. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Eligibility

Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a protected person under subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
Must not be currently declared ineligible to apply for and hold funding from NSERC or any other Canadian research funding organization for reasons of breach of standards of ethics or integrity.
Hold or expect to hold a doctorate in one of the fields of research that NSERC supports.
Must not have already received a postdoctoral award.
